The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
This evening I walked along the banks of the New River quietly observing the sunlight on the water and the forest. The golden glow on the branches gradually lifted higher as the sun went down and it was as if you could see time passing before your eyes. My attention was shifted back and forth between the sound of the rushing waters over the rocks and the chirping of the red winged blackbirds in the surrounding bushes.
I caught the glorious sight of a beautiful blue heron gliding down river to a spot on the bank where it landed. This was a quiet time to just enjoy the beauty the Lord has created and to be in awe as the retreating sun lit up the billowing clouds in the evening sky.
In Psalm 19 David reminds us that there is no language which does not hear and understand this message of creation. What is evident about God has been made known by Him through what we can see and understand, so that all of mankind is without excuse.
This is not unlike any scientific evidence that is considered by intellectuals today. They look for things that can be observed, studied, repeated, and that indicate where they came from. Every cell in the human body has information built into it that testifies to being designed by an intelligent being that planned what was then produced. To ignore the evidence of an intelligent designer is to pretend that all scientific study is meaningless. Science relies on laws that predict the behavior of the universe but you cannot have a law without a lawgiver.
But many do not honor Him as God or give thanks to Him. Instead they fashion a god to suit their own imagination and worship the creation, rather than the creator. They pretend they are wise and that science knows better, when He is the one that created science. So God has given them over to pursue their sinful passions and perversions.
