Jeremiah 17:7,8

Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

Warren Buffet is one of the top five wealthiest people in the world because he has managed the investments of billions of dollars and knows how to wisely increase his money. He graduated from college at age 19 before going on to obtain numerous graduate degrees and start his career in investment banking. During a visit to Las Vegas in his younger days, he was astounded at how gamblers would pump their money into slot machines or card games even though they knew that the odds of getting rich were mathematically against them. To him, they were foolishly throwing away what they could have invested wisely and were putting faith in a system that didn't work.

The wisdom he had gained from his financial training gave him keen insight into the common behavior of people that was wasteful and was bound to fail. When you follow God's ways, convinced that He knows what is best and right, you are investing in your future relationships, business, emotional stability, peace, joy, and even your ability to be wise. The strong roots you will have in Him and His wisdom will cause you to experience His favor and when tough times come you will have a source of soothing refreshment like a tree that gets water through its roots.

You will not be afraid when you look around and see others choking as the world's system sows fear and anger and doubt into the minds of people because your roots will be deeply holding on to truth that lasts, not following the trends or feelings of pop culture.

Decide now that you are going to put your confidence in Him, invest in His training and obey what the Bible says. Draw near to Him every day and put your confidence in His instructions no matter how you feel. Don't gamble away your future by giving in to your feelings or chasing after temptations that can never satisfy. Move forward building your roots down through saturating your mind with God's Word. Write important verses on a card and stick them to your mirror so you can review them each day to remind you of where you need to keep headed.
