Psalm 1:3

In all that he does, he prospers.

You rarely come across a pitch that will give you a sure formula for how to make a lot of money that doesn’t sound like there is a catch. Not only is social media full of such hucksters, but your email inbox is probably getting hit everyday with an investment scheme that sounds hard to pass up. But no one wants to be fooled into spending time and money only to find it was a scam. The seller of the book you are enticed to buy has probably done nothing successful other than sell the book on how to get rich.

What does the Bible say about getting rich?

The very first Psalm in the Bible is from God Himself so it is worth paying attention to. Listen to Him and do what He tells you and you will experience real success. He is the author of how to be prosperous and the One who causes it to happen. Read this entire Psalm today.

First, He says don’t base your life on the schemes of wicked people. Listen to the Holy Spirit and be on your guard to just stay away from them. Don’t join in any of their plans or you will suffer like they do.

Second, don’t let your lifestyle be filled with doing things like the world does them. Chasing after material stuff to look as good as the people on TV or buying a fancier car to impress others will only give you temporary pleasure that will rot and fade. And choose good friends to be around who will encourage you to do the right things.

Are you in a good Bible study with others who want to be fully committed to the Lordship of Christ?

Finally, the Psalmist says that the most important thing you can do to guarantee success is to gain great wisdom from the Bible and make it your manual for life. Read it to learn what to do and what not to do. But don’t just read it. Spend moments each day meditating on what you read so that you will understand and apply it.

How can this help you be prosperous?

First, you will learn what pleases God and how to live life His way. Then, you will come to understand what He has designed you for. You could waste a lot of years chasing the wrong goals so learn now why He has put you on this earth.

He wants you to live like a tree planted by a great source of water that is fruitful all year, but if you are chasing the wrong objectives in life, you could end up frustrated, dried up, feeling like you’ll never crawl out from under the discouraging things that hit you all because you ignored what He was calling you to do.

Prosperity and success mean different things to each of us and only wisdom that comes from His Spirit can lead you in the direction He has for you.

Read Psalm 1 and look in the mirror. Determine today that you will follow His plan for success.
