For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world...
Paintings of the early renaissance are still admired today for their beauty and breathtaking technique. Of course, the largest number of pieces originating in Europe were commissioned by the church and depict Biblical themes.
One of my all time favorites is by the artist Caravaggio called The Taking of Christ and was completed in 1602. It depicts the moment after Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss and shows a close up of the characters involved in this pivotal garden scene. It is an emotionally moving image that was heralded immediately as a masterpiece of art but 200 years later it was thought to have disappeared. Even though it had passed to a number of wealthy collectors and was donated to a monastery in Ireland in the 1930's, it was believed by mistake to be a copy produced by a student of the artist.
In 1993 the painting was sent to a museum for cleaning and using modern chemical analysis, it was confirmed by experts to be the original. In today's market it is worth tens of millions.
Think of how you would feel if you were the artist and your masterful work was credited to someone else. In like manner, the natural world around us declares God's glory and handiwork and His power and divine nature are clearly understood but the world rejects this evidence and worships an unknown force or the creation itself instead of the Creator.
Even though they know God, they do not honor Him or give Him thanks and their hearts have become darkened. They continually rebel against Him and encourage others to do the same. Does it take faith to believe that God exists? No, it takes a reasoning mind.
We know that Caravaggio existed because we see his painting. If there is a painting on the wall, there must have been a painter. It does not take faith to accept that fact. When we observe the details of creation and the evidence that points to intelligent design, logic would tell us that there must have been a designer.
Even atheists agree that the world around us demonstrates the results of intelligent design. They assert, however, that it does not prove there is a designer. They are willfully ignorant and have to deny logic to insist on this conclusion.
We are called by the Lord to be lights in this dark world and to point others to Him. Your life is like a masterpiece of art painted by His brush and when people see you, they should give honor to the one who made you. None of us are perfect. We are all "works in progress" but you can live today as a radiant example to a dark world.
