Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be
careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
The world says that you have to think of success as a game, a battle you will wage with your competitor or opposition. To win you have to be ruthless, to outsmart them, to employ a better strategy. “Life is a zero sum game” they say, which means that there is only so much to go around so you better work harder than the next person or you will not get your share.
If you succeed, its only when someone else fails.
You, for instance, are one of hundreds applying for that job so you better stretch the truth in order to make your resumé look better than the others or your application will end up at the bottom of the pile. This mindset can be summarized as “the end justifies the means” to explain why its ok to tell a small white lie or cheat because, after all, you need the money and your family is counting on you.
That is not the way God thinks at all.
He is the author of success and His ways will result in a life that bears fruit from your character. When you commit yourself to seek His way to success, it will be evident in how you act and will demonstrate to those depending on you that your faith is not in a world of dwindling opportunities but in a God who can make all things possible.
The promise of prosperity and success at the end of this verse is an open declaration that the world has missed the basic truth of our existence. God’s formula is different from the philosophy of men because it is based on obedience to His Word, His way, His path for righteous living.
The Bible repeatedly warns us that when we sin, we suffer, but here it assures us that if we focus our minds and meditate on His Word making it the basis for our decisions, we will succeed as we make choices that lead to a life able to withstand the storm, help the weak, and bring others to a place of peace and a right relationship with God.
